Surfin' Bird, THEE song that gave me the apple, tempted me with the juice of the grape, made me an offer i couldn't refuse, and took my hand down the primrose path, introduced me to satan so's i could sign over my soul. Addicted me to fuzzy guitar, rumbling bass and wild screams; I found my uncle's forgotten stash of 7" 45s in an old box and laser focused on that one track before flipping it over to the window rattling bass of King Of The Surf. A B-side coulda shoulda been an A-side in itself. I surf with the bird in the shower to start my day right

I had the Nuggets compilation albums , but lost them somewhere . That was punk in a time when people were square as F××× . Ten years before it break loose. All you reactioneers should try those on for size . Can't ait for some true surprised people xhen they discover what some kids , maybe their granddad , called rock .

Good work and research….as I commented before, no mention of The Rocky Horror Show…check out the original London cast album and show for reference on musical style and fashion.
There’s an autobiography “My Life and Rocky Horror” by Martin Fitzgibbon, the RHS drummer. Great job though thanks

Pure rubbish made so by the utter and complete omission of The Doors. Because if you don't think that punk is an attitude moreover than three stupid fuzzy chords…then your astonishing lack of insight deserves complete disregard. Oh but you didn't seem to forget the bullshit Captain Beef Farts.

In 1976 I was 13 and in 2nd Form (Grade 8) at High School, and it was such a phenomenal year in music overall that I can still name and date every artist, single and album that came out that year.

The best way to get on the road to punk is buying that first Nuggets album. That way, the too-short, overly simplified nuggets of interest dropped by our British narrator could be avoided, if desired.

Punk always more of an attitude rather than just a narrow musical genre and here in the UK we are seeing a return to that, the differences between the various bands sounds at one show can be vast which has reignited punk and, thankfully the music media ignore it so it can continue to grow organically and not be hindered by journalistic expectations of what they think punk is as they sit afar in their fake ivory towers and imagine they have become the self appointed mouth pieces for what they think punk should be and, sound like.
Punk has reclaimed itself and it's heart is still beating strongly.

I used to go to Hawkwind gigs all the time, there was always other punks at their gigs, they headlined Stonehenge festival one night and Poison girls headlined the next night replacing Crass who sadly cancelled for what ever reason, I spent a week there that year (in '84) and loved every moment. 😁

Many people don't realise that Crass used lots of Jazz elements to create their music, the most obvious example being their last 12inch single 12 notes on a summer's day (or was it 14 notes…? Im not at home at the moment so don't have access to it), anyone who listens to punk and Jazz can hear it.
That's what was good about early punk, it's unashamed use of music that came before despite what is said in this YouTube documentary, early punk bands weren't born punk musicians and had a world of music to help craft their songs unlike many young punk bands today who's influence is only punk. That's not saying that there are no good young punk bands because there is.

Punk didnt want to destroy all that came before it, it wanted a return to basic, fun rock n roll musically and kick out the dull prog rockers who had turned it into mush along with comedy pop by people like convicted child molester Johnathan king..
